The Irish Heart Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit charity organisation raising awareness about cardiovascular disease and aiming to prevent people from dying prematurely due to heart related issues. They engage in a number of lifesaving and life-changing work in research, CPR, prevention, advocacy and patient support. The organisation is one that is very near and dear to our hearts here in DROMONE. On the evening of 14th February 2017, we sadly lost one of our longest serving employees, Donal Devine. Donal passed away suddenly following a hurling training session with his beloved Castlepollard Club. We shared great times with Donal over the 23 years that he spent in DROMONE. He left his mark in the company amongst staff, customers and suppliers and to this day he remains truly missed by all.

This Valentine’s day we decided to commemorate Donal by fundraising for the Irish Heart Foundation. It was a perfect fit, being Donal’s anniversary and Valentine’s day. On Valentine’s, the world celebrates love and the image of the heart has become synonymous with this day, so we thought… why not treat our hearts with love by doing something good?
We organised a cake sale internally which saw many of our staff bake some delicious treats. We also raffled off a number of prizes to some lucky winners. The theme of the event focused on the heart and we raised a total of €1,350.
The recognition of Donal and the Irish Heart Foundation on this day really boosted the morale throughout DROMONE and we all felt proud that we could not only celebrate Donal, but also raise awareness about cardiovascular disease which is considered one of the main causes of death in Ireland. We are delighted to be able to help the Irish Heart Foundation make a difference and save lives with our donation.
